These are by far the best heavy bag gloves I've used. I've been boxing for about 4 years but not competitively. I was using cheap Everlast Pro Style 16 oz training gloves and tried a few other gloves including $12 Defender gloves which actually were not bad at first since they are really plush but the padding compresses after a month and you lose most of your knuckle protection. Another pair of cheap Everlasts made of fake leather had the seams blow out after a month on the heavy bag and the stuffing shifted away from the knuckles. Bottom line is all these gloves I've tried under $40 are no good for heavy bag work. My knuckles were in constant pain. Sometimes I'd have to take a week off the heavy bag to heal. Cheap gloves are only good for light sparring. By the way, I normally don't use wraps because I don't have time in my workout schedule. I need gloves I can quickly take on and off but still give me protection without having to use wraps under them. I have used wraps in gloves before and for those who haven't I can tell you you do get noticeably better protection against knuckle and wrist sprains. These World Gel gloves are the best protection without using wraps that I've used. Using their sizing guidelines I fell in no mans land of being between medium or large. Both medium and large are 16oz gloves but the size of the hand pockets are not. Because I did not plan to wrap my hands, which glove sizes build in the room for wraps, I decided to go with medium. I am very glad I did. They are a PERFECT fit for me. For comparison my hands measure 3 3/4" wide by 7 1/4" long 8 3/4" circumference below the knuckles. My hands fit snug but not too tight and my fingers come just shy of touching the ends. Oversized gloves have a tendency to leave your hands floating around in them and shift when hitting the bag. These stay firmly in place. The linings are very sleek and comfortable allowing your hands to easily glide in and out. The hook and loop design is the best in my opinion if you want to put your gloves on and off yourself without having to use your teeth like on some styles just to put on or remove the second glove. The best thing about these gloves is their ability to absorb shock and I think it has to do with the gel mostly. I barely feel anything on my knuckles anymore even go hard on the bag. Wrist protection is decent but not as good as the knuckle protection. My wrists are on the medium/small side and the medium gloves are perfect when I cinch them on tight. They do stretch some but even after stretching the Velcro lines up about perfect. On too big of gloves half the Velcro will end up not being used because it does not make contact from being pulled past ideal alignment of upper and lower Velcro fasteners. These gloves keep your wrist straight but don't cinch directly over the joint so you don't get direct support there but don't know if a glove that does. Most gloves the wraps cinch slightly back of the wrist joint and another reason for using hand wraps if you want full protection. Breathability is average. They will still be damp with sweat the next day. Even after a full weekend I still notice a little dampness in them the next time I put them on. I leave mine in a closed gym bag. Some may be wondering can you get the sharp "crack" sound when hitting the bag and yes you do if you can throw proper punches. If you punch with a snap and not push the bag you'll create the cracking sound you want on the bag. After 3 weeks the gloves have broke in nicely with no loss of protection or break down. The stitching looks good and leather is high quality. I expect these gloves to last well over a year of constant abuse. I usually hit the bag 2-3 times a week with 4-5 15 minute sparring sessions with partners. As for sparring these offer enough protection for light to medium sparring in my opinion. The only difference I think than most 16 oz foam sparring/training gloves is these have the gel which makes them feel slightly more dense. The size of these gloves are about the same as most 16oz traing gloves. If you are expecting a small profile glove for speed work on the bag don't. I paid nearly $100 for these gloves. Are they worth it? Absolutely. My knuckles are worth way more than $100. Probably the best investment ever made if it prevents me from ruining my hands.
